Manila: Armed men raided a foreign-controlled copper-and-gold mine in the southern Philippines
burning a drill rig the owners said on Monday.Australia-listed copper developer Indophil Resources NL which owns roughly a third of the Tampakan venture said it came under attack on Sunday but that no one was injured.It contains the largest undeveloped copper-gold deposits in Southeast Asia it said. The gunmen burned a drill rig and escaped. Police were still investigating Indophil said.Gavan Collery Indophil's corporate affairs manager in Melbourne Australia said gunmen entered an area designated for waste rock about 15 kilometers from the deposits. The Tampakan project is owned 62.5 per cent by Anglo-Swiss miner Xstrata PLC and 34.23 per cent by Indophil with Philippine partners holding the balance. |
