Having a Wi-Fi test lab in India is important as India has emerged as a hub for Wi-Fi product development both by local companies and development subsidiaries of multinational technology companies said Kannan A.S. general manager for embedded testing in the Wipro Technology business of Wipro and head of the Wi-Fi test lab.
Wipro will set up the test lab in Bangalore where the company has its headquarters.
Access to testing services in the India region can reduce time to market and cost of development as the testing facilities will be closer to many of its members' product development activities the Wi-Fi Alliance said Tuesday.

Pre-certification testing allows Wi-Fi Alliance member companies to pre-test Wi-Fi devices and troubleshoot problems before entering the formal process of getting the device Wi-Fi certified.
Under the new agreement the Indian outsoucer will run both the pre-certification lab and the final test lab said Sanjay Seth general manager for testing services and global alliances at Wipro Technologies.
The Wi-Fi test lab adds to Wipro?s current portfolio of specialized testing services which include testing and certification for Windows Vista compliance 3G (third-generation) wireless compliance and packaged application testing Seth said. Wipro also has the opportunity to cross-sell some of its own services in product engineering to Wi-Fi product makers he added.
?We can now save time to market for customers by offering product engineering from concept all the way to a completely certified product? Kannan said.
The Wi-Fi Alliance has 12 test laboratories worldwide including the one run by Wipro. It has certified more than 3500 products since the introduction of its Wi-Fi certified program in March 2000.
