Health official: Egyptian border guards kill Sudanese migrant in Sinai




RAFAH Egypt (AP) - An Egyptian health official says
border guards have killed a Sudanese migrant who was
allegedly trying to cross illegally into Israel.

Imad Kharboush of El-Arish Hospital says 32-year-old
Abdel-karim Ahmed Adam died Sunday of a gunshot wound to
the chest.

A police official in Rafah says the migrant ignored
warning shots and continued running toward the border
fence. The official spoke n condition of anonymity because
he is not authorized to speak to the media.

He said seven other Sudanese have been arrested in a
separate incident south of Rafah.

The migrants have told police that each had paid $500 to
human traffickers to take them to the Israeli border. They
were seeking political asylum and jobs in Israel.
