Africa fund kicks off in Munich

Germany's Michael Ballack is among the stars performing on Saturday
Some of the biggest names in football are joining forces for a new campaign to raise millions of dollars ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
A charity match in Munich will mark the launch of the project in which fans are being asked to donate money for every goal scored by their favourite team.
Germany's Michael Ballack and England's Steven Gerard are among the players.
Goal4Africa will use the funds to develop grassroots football and education throughout Africa.
Saturday's match has been organised by former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf and Brazil striker Ronaldo.
Texting for teams
Goal4Africa's aim is to raise awareness of a project to improve education and social development in Africa

while building a lasting legacy for the continent.
It aims to use football

a game that is hugely popular across Africa

to help achieve its objective.
The premise is simple: fans will be encouraged to pledge money by text or online for every goal scored by their favourite team over the next two years.
The campaign will continue until the 2010 World Cup

by which time it is hoped to have raised more than $90m (£45m). The money from every ticket sold for Saturday's match at Bayern Munich's stadium will go straight into the fund. The timing of the launch event deliberately coincides with the week of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday

because of his desire of education for all children in Africa.
