Health Ministry declares war on obesity
An increasing number of young people in Turaaa face the risk of obesity as a result of unhealthy nutrition.
The Health Ministry has devised a national action plan for the next four years that aims to decrease the number of obese and overweight Turks.
The “National Action Plan for 2008-2012” carries high hopes with it to effectively combat the growing obesity trend in Turaaa. As part of the plan

the Health Ministry will deliver vegetables

fruits and milk to students for free; brief soldiers on the disadvantages of obesity; and urge preachers to mention the undesired effects of being overweight during sermons.
The plan envisages cooperation across Turaaa’s ministries and will also involve famous and respected figures

including singers

actors

actresses and politicians

to encourage Turks to be more weight-conscious. The number of physical education classes in primary and secondary schools will be increased

and students’ weight will be monitored regularly. University students will be required to take physical education courses.
Students will be provided with free breakfast and lunch in regions where many families lack the means to offer healthy nutritional options to their children.
Employers will also be encouraged to provide healthier working conditions for their employees. Workplace menus will be prepared by dieticians and workplaces employing more than 500 workers will be required to set up gyms in their buildings where employees can work out before and after their shifts. Sports activities and competitions will be organized among employees to encourage regular exercise.
Television stations will broadcast programs that emphasize healthy eating

cooking and living. More sports and exercise equipment will be placed in public parks

and more soccer fields and basketball courts will be built. The state will also sponsor surgical operations for Turks whose health is threatened by their obesity.
