Mr Johnson has promised New York-style policing



Newly elected London mayor Boris Johnson is holding talks with New York counterpart Michael Bloomberg.
Crime, transport and the environment are likely to be on the agenda as the two men discuss the challenges of running a world class city.
Mr Bloomberg is to join Conservative leader David Cameron later for a tour of a London school.
Meanwhile, an opinion poll gives the Tories a 26-point nationwide lead over the Labour Party.
Police pledge
The two mayors briefly admired the view from the balcony of City Hall before returning inside to exchange novelty gifts.
Mayor Bloomberg present Mr Johnson with a Tiffany box containing a crystal Big Apple paperweight, before the Conservative MP returned the favour with a shirt of the London Underground.
Handing over the plastic wrapped shirt, Mr Johnson quipped: "This is not the most handsomely wrapped present."
Mr Johnson beat Labour's Ken Livingstone by 140,000 votes in last week's mayoral poll.
During his campaign he promised to bring in "New York-style crime mapping", showing the crime levels in each of the city's neighbourhoods and making local police commanders held to account at monthly public meetings.
Alcohol ban
Mr Johnson also pledged to provide 50 more British Transport Police officers and 440 extra police support officers.
Mr Johnson has announced an alcohol ban on buses and the underground in an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour.
On Thursday, Mr Bloomberg met Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his Irish counterpart Brian Cowen in Belfast for talks on improving investment in Northern Ireland.
An opinion poll for the Sun newspaper suggests 49% of voters are backing the Conservatives, compared with 23% for Labour. The Conservative score was five points up on last month, while Labour dropped three and the Liberal Democrats remained at 17%. YouGov sampled 1,571 adults online between 7 and 8 May.
