A father has been jailed for four-and-a-half-years after he admitted shaking his 10-week-old baby daughter to death.
Wayne Robertson, 30, of Russell Street, Loughborough, admitted the manslaughter of his baby daughter at Birmingham Crown Court last month.
Lila Robertson died three days after being admitted to hospital in 2006 after suffering brain and eye injuries.
The court was told he became "frustrated" with what he described as her "whingey mood".
Robertson changed his plea to manslaughter just before a jury was due to be sworn in to try him for murder.
'Precious life'
In sentencing, Judge Julia Macur told Robertson she knew there were times when he was a "loving and caring father" but it was the responsibility of the court to protect vulnerable children.
"You nevertheless were responsible for her [Lila].
"Her life was precious and it was brought to a premature end at ten weeks of age," she said.
The court heard Robertson shook Lila after she was crying and in a "whingey mood".
She became "floppy, pale and unresponsive" and was taken to a medical centre by her mother, Shaffreen Khan, the court was told.
'Centre of world'
His barrister, Charles Chruszcz QC said Robertson accepted he had caused his daughter serious harm but never intended to.
He said he should not have been left in charge of her because of his "inability" to gauge her requirements "due to his intellect".
"This is not put forward as any form of excuse but merely as an explanation."
Ms Khan, 25, of Alan Moss Road, Loughborough, was cleared of causing her daughter's death last month. A jury found her not guilty of causing or allowing Lila's death and cruelty to a child. Birmingham Crown Court heard the baby was the "centre of her world at that time".
