Beşiktaş Chairman Yıldırım Demirören complained about referees

claiming that they robbed them of the Turkcell Super League title. Beşiktaş is fourth in the standings with 67 points

six points behind leader Galatasaray. Speaking at an event organized by a Beşiktaş fans' association

Demirören said they could be celebrating the trophy

if it was not for bad refereeing. “If the referees hadn't robbed us of 15 points this year

we would be singing songs to celebrate our championship now

” said Demirören. “The team was leader three weeks ago

and the most serious contender for the title. The whole country saw and accepted [refereeing mistakes]. Now we are the champions of the hearts.” Demirören defended the team and coach Ertuğrul Sağlam

denying the rumors of a possible sacking. “If Beşiktaş was robbed

neither the coach nor the players can be considered to have failed

” he said. “We will walk the way with Sağlam. And we will battle hard to prevent those mistakes from being repeated next year.”
