Vodafone eyeing further 12.5 pct stake in Vodacom
British-based mobile phone group Vodafone said on Monday it was in talks with South Africa's Telkom about buying a further 12.5 percent of the two firms' Vodacom venture.
"We can confirm that we're in discussions with Telkom to buy an additional stake in Vodacom  " a Vodafone spokesman said adding the talks were over buying a further 12.5 percent stake."However there are no assurances that such discussions will lead to a transaction being concluded " he said.Telkom said earlier that Vodafone was seeking to increase its stake in Vodacom and that Mvelaphanda Group New York-listed private equity firm Och-Ziff and other strategic investors were considering a joint bid for the whole company minus the Vodacom stake. |
